Services: Services will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown.

Visitation: Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the Zion Lutheran Church both in New Middletown.

Poland - William J. Shandor, 82, of Poland passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Hospice House in Poland. William was born February 17, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of John and Anna (Luchansky) Shandor, and moved to New Middletown in 1932. He graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1944. William served in the Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Massachusetts and worked for L.F. Donnell for 32 years. He was a Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Master of Troop 89, and served as the Fire Chief for Springfield Township,and was a Charter Member of the Springfield Township Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He leaves his wife, the former Ruth DeRhodes whom he married November 26, 1946; a son David A. Shandor and a daughter Patricia (George) Engleman, both of New Middletown; one sister Helen Mohr of Youngstown; ten grandchildren; Heather Anastos, Steve Shandor, Colleen Shaw, Lorilyn Shandor, Dan and Tim Engleman, Mike, Bill, Mark and Diddle Tatum, and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves many beloved family members, especially Joyce Dierkes with whom he and his wife spent many hours traveling to their camp, walking, and doing so many things together. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; John, Michael and George Shandor; two sisters: Julia Mesaros and Mary Bakalar; and one daugher, Mary Tatum.
