Allison Park, Pa. - A memorial service will be held on Monday May 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church of Highland which is located at 311 Cumberland Rd. in Pittsburgh,PA, 15237 in the North Hills. William Hertzler  Diehm was born on August 8,1923 in Youngstown and he passed away on May 9,2014, after a brief illness at the Good Samaritan Hospice House near Pittsburgh surrounded by hi s family. Formerly of North Lima Road in Poland, he is survived by his three children, William Bair (Sue Ann)  Diehm of Pittsburgh, Sally Jo (Maggy) Diehm of Eugene, OR, and Linda Diehm (Michael) Zaugg of Seattle,WA, eight grandchildren, Gretchen Alta Diehm, Stefan Martin (Nikki) Diehm , Marta Sue Diehm, Joel (Mandy) Hazen, Kurt Hazen-Diehm, Keith (Lisa) Hazen-Diehm, Karin Zaugg (Dan) Black, Erik Diehm (Laura) Zaugg, six great grandchildren William retired at age 59 as the assistant chief chemist from the Youngstown Sheet and Tube (Jones and Laughlin) and he served during WWII in the 84th Infantry Division in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was a long-time  pillar of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Youngstown and most recently a member of the St. John's Lutheran church of Highland   . William married Phyllis Bair Diehm, his wife of 65 years, and she preceded him in death in 2010.He was preceded in death by his parents Judge Edgar G. and Maude Hertzler Diehm, a brother Joe Diehm, sisters Mary Jane Diehm Coffman and Ann Diehm Newcombe Memorial contributions can be made to the St. John's of Highland Mission Endowment Fund at 311 Cumberland Road in Pittsburgh,PA 15237, or the Good Samaritan hospice at 3500 Brooktree Road Suite 320  in Wexford,PA 15090.
