Wayne E.
Raub
December 28, 1926 – January 27, 2017
Wayne E. Raub, 90, formerly of New Middletown, Ohio departed this life on January 27, 2017 at Marian Living Center in North Lima.
Wayne was born December 28, 1926, the youngest son of Edna and Omar Raub of Poland, Ohio. He was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School, before entering the US Navy during WWII. The war quickly ended during Wayne's service, which led to a memorable goodwill tour of Europe on the USS Cone. After leaving the Navy, he returned home to Ohio and married his wife Joan (Groce) Raub and started a family.
Wayne's life and work experience gave him the ability to build and repair just about anything. He was a skilled carpenter who built homes with his brother, Omar. He went on to become a machinist in Lowellville at Rex Machine, from where he retired in 1992. Wayne hand built his home on Stacy Dr. in New Middletown, in which he took great pride and lived until 2016. He also built and refinished furniture which many family members treasure.
Wayne was a faithful Christian who served as Elder and Trustee at Petersburg Presbyterian Church. He had been a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Leetonia before it closed. Wayne was blessed with a wonderful church family. He shared generously his time and talents to repair and upgrade the church property. In Later years he especially enjoyed his Thursday morning breakfasts with church friends at Heck's restaurant in Columbiana.
He is survived by his children, Keith Raub, Sally Bardin, Janel (Bill) Mentzer, six grandchildren, Nichol Campana, Amber (Michael) Walker, Erica Raub, Allen Mentzer, Scott Mentzer, Joshua Bardin, and two great grandsons, Tyson and Oliver Walker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his wife, Joan Raub, a son, Craig Raub, and second wife, Ethel (Cotterman) Raub.
Friends and family may call at Petersburg Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, Feb. 4 with a memorial service being held at 11:30 am
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Petersburg Presbyterian Church's Building fund at 13996 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Rd, Petersburg, OH 44454.
The family wishes to thank the friends and staff at Marian Living Center at the Assumption Village for the love, kindness and care given to Wayne. They also thank Hospice of the Valley for their care and support in his last days.
Arrangements handled by Clemente Funeral Home, New Middletown, Ohio.
