Obituary

Boardman – The world became a little less bright on March 11, 2025, with the passing of Virgil "Gomer" Pyle of Flemington, West Virginia. His unique humor and sarcasm brought joy to those around him.

He was born on July 19, 1940 in Brownton, West Virginia, a son of the late Iza Leone and Hazel Calhoun Pyle. He served in the US Army, and later moved to Ohio to work for US Steel for nineteen years. Upon closing of the plant, he returned to his hometown and worked for Rojac Heating and Cooling until he retired.

In recent years his passion has been going to the casinos. As a country boy at heart, Ramp Man Virgil Pyle was always out hunting, fishing, and wandering the hills. He was always on the go, frequently hanging out with his girls at Spencers Market and walking the Walmart parking lot looking for pennies.

Virgil leaves his son Joseph (Melinda) Pyle of Youngstown, OH, his daughter Pamela (Jay) Guidos of Boardman, OH, his brother Elmer (Debbie) Pyle of Flemington, WV, his sister Ada Mae Anglin of New Middletown, OH, sister in law Doris Pyle of Baltimore, MD, brother in law Leonard Trader of Brownton, WV, five grandchildren Kasey Eshenbaugh, Nicole Morris, Joseph Amrich, Ashley Amrich, Amber Stright, 8 great grandchildren, his former wife, Peggy Pyle of Poland, OH, and an abundance of nieces of nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Robert and Marvin Pyle, and three sisters Blanche Shaffer, Loretta Trader, and Augustine Gray.

There will be a memoral dinner held on Sunday, May 4th, at the Flemington Community Center from 5-8 pm at 47 East Veterans Memorial Highway, Flemington, WV 26347. All are welcome to come celebrate the life of this amazing man with us as we say our final goodbyes.
