Thomas J. Zavodni, 88, passed away Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Campus. Thomas was born on Sept. 8, 1921, in Frugality, PA, a son of John and Anna Estok Zavodni. He came to this area in 1951. He worked for the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and LTV. He served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II as a radio operator in North Africa in the Battle of Kasserine Pass. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown. He was a member of the DAV and the Catholic War Vets. He was a former member and vice-commander of the VFW Post in Gallitzin, Pa. He was also an avid left-handed golfer, who won numberous amateur golf tournaments and had three holes in one over his lifetime. Thomas married the former Gilda H. Joseph on June 26, 1946. Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Renee (Charles)Bero of New Middletown; one sister, Mary Lesniewski of Canton; two grandchildren, Heather (Jordan) Troggio and Elizabeth (Michael) Jorge; six great-grandchildren, Jay, Charley, Hunter, Santino, Alex and Noah. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John Zavodni, Jr. and Andrew Zavodni.
