Boardman- A prayer service will be held Thursday, January 28th at 9:30 am at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers followed by a church service at the Holy Family Church in Poland at 10:00 a.m. for Rosemary Hromyak, 84, passed away on January 24, 2016 after a courageous bout with Parkinson's disease.
Rosemary was born on August 15, 1931 in Struthers, the daughter of Andrew and Mary
(Bunofsky) Chuey. She graduated from Struthers High School in 1950, and that's where she met Mike Hromyak, the man who made her life complete.
Rosemary was all about family, proud of her 55 year marriage to Mike, and for raising her three children. Rose expressed her love of family through her cooking, especially Sunday suppers. Mom cooked and baked not to just eat; rather, it was for the sake of countless family gatherings. Memories are vivid of Rosie's American and Slovak home cooked meals, her rosy cheeks, and warm smile seeing everyone come together at her big dinner table.
Rosemary lived life to its fullest. She loved Ohio fishing for walleye, ocean fishing in South Carolina, trekking through the Poland forest, and long walks on California beaches. Rosemary enjoyed playing cards with her grandkids, shooting hoops, throwing Frisbee, and collecting seashells. Rose's patio was where she spent free time relaxing on the chase, and listening and seeing all the bird and squirrel life in her big back yard. Rose also liked feeding the ponies at Mountaineer race track.
Rosemary had a wonderful childhood during the "hay days" in Struthers. In high school, she had many friends who referred to her as their "Slaboda" (modern day homey). Her adult life was equally great as she traveled the country from South Carolina to Florida, to Texas, Arizona, and California to be with family. Rosemary loved family gatherings, especially with the Shuluga family where she helped her sister Anna prepare many feasts over the years. She was fortunate to live next to John and Betty, Red and Nancy, Bill and Janet, the best neighbors ever. Mom's later years were spent at Briarfield Manor which became "home" thanks to the genuine caring people who work there.
Rosemary was a people person, and was always ready and willing to engage in good conversation. She once said that she just wanted to have fun in life. Her warm spirit, wit, and humor were very special. Mom made a point to advise her son's well. For example, she wanted us to be grateful for what you have in life: "don't worry about what someone else has, worry about yourself". Her humor and wisdom shined through when she once said "you can always stay home and bake muffins with me". Rosemary's support and encouragement to family and friends was always there. That's why everyone liked Rosemary, and why she will be missed but not forgotten.
Rosemary is survived by son Dan (Aysegul) of Pismo Beach, California, daughter Michelle of Augusta, Georgia, and son Tom of Florida. Grandma leaves behind six grandchildren, including Drew, Ben, Nick, Jake, Ryan and Karina, Rosemary is survived by her brothers Ralph (Colette) Chuey, Tom (Pat) Chuey, and sister-in-law Anna Shuluga (Hromyak). Also, Rosemary has many nieces and nephews including her niece, Audrey Smith, her personal physician assistant who always kept a watchful eye on her.
Friends will be received to celebrate Rosemary's life on Wednesday January 27th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
