NEW MIDDLETOWN - Richard A. Smith (Rick), 54, of New Middletown, passed away on Saturday at his home. Richard was born on September 27, 1955 in Ross County, OH, a son of Robert E. and Evelyn Phillips Smith. He came to the Youngstown area as a child. He worked as a registered nurse for the St. Elizabeth Health Care Center and he was currently working as a registered nurse at the Masternack Memorial Health Care center in New Middletown. Richard was a very spiritual person and was an active member of the church communities as a musician. He loved music and was very talented in playing the drums, guitar and keyboard. He liked to play video games and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife. His family loved him very much and he enjoyed the time he spent with them. He touched everyone around him with his dry sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He was friends with everyone and will be missed. Richard married the former Mary Jo Pignanelli on March 22, 1981. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons; Matthew T. Smith of Norfolk, VA and Brian A. Smith of New Middletown, OH; he also leaves five brothers and six sisters. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
