Richard "Dick" Curtis Heberling, 76, died peacefully on February 16, 2016 at The Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, CO.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown, OH.
Richard was born on May 12, 1939, New Springfield, OH, the son of Chester and Janet (Richards) Heberling.
He graduated from Springfield Local High School in Petersburg, OH in 1957.
Richard married his beloved wife Diane Heberling on June 11, 1960 and together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage.
Richard enlisted in the Army in 1961 and continued his military career in Heidelberg, Germany from 1962 to 1965. Diane joined him overseas, and she and Richard welcomed son Richard Scott Heberling, born February 9, 1965. Upon returning from Germany, Richard obtained a position with IBM, where he then dedicated over 25 years of service. Throughout that time, he transitioned with technology from repairing typewriters, to using his expertise in computers as a member of the IBM Top Gun consultation team in Boca Raton, FL.
In his spare time, Richard loved to play golf and bowl in several leagues. Richard was also highly involved in the sports and musical activities of both of his children. Whether coaching, refereeing, or providing support from the stands, he was always present. In addition to his involvement with his children, Richard dedicated over 40 years to philanthropic work with the local chapter of Ruritan. He spent many years acting in the role of leadership positions, including being the treasurer from 1993 until 2011, and loved being involved in the fundraising, civil service activities, and friendships.
A loving and devoted father and grandfather, Richard will be greatly missed by his son, Richard Scott Heberling (Tamara) of Colorado Springs, Co; his daughter Michele Lynn Heberling (Edward Ujhazy) of Uniontown, OH and grandchildren, Tanner James Heberling, of Great Falls, Montana; McKenna Lynn and Brodie Austin Heberling of Colorado Springs, CO; and Chase Edward and Caden James Ujhazy of Uniontown, Ohio.
Richard will also be lovingly remembered by his sister Marilyn Dornan, and brother George Heberling.
He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, brother, George Heberling, and parents.
Family and friends may call on Saturday before the service from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown, OH.
