Services: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.

Struthers - Ralph E. Schoonover, 87, of Struthers, passed away on Tuesday morning at the Hospice House in Poland. Ralph was born on January 27, 1922 in Struthers, OH, a son of James E. and Mary Esinger Schoonover. He was in property protection at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company as a deputy sheriff for many years, retiring in 1980. He served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. Ralph married the former Amelia Zajc on May 1, 1948, she passed away on July 12, 1979. He leaves behind one son Roy Schoonover of Struthers; one daughter, Karlene S. Schoonover of Denton, Texas and one brother Charles Schoonover of Jacksonville, FL. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother Carl Schoonover,who was killed in WWII and one sister Joan.
