New Springfield - Peter Paul Vitko, 90, passed away Sunday evening at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center. Peter was born September 17, 1921, a son of Andro and Agnes (Franjko) Vitko. He served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Force. After returning from active duty during World War II, he married Mary Poldergotch, the love of his life, on Sept. 1, 1948. They celebrated their 61st anniversary before Mary's death in 2010. Peter loved his wife Mary snd provided for her care through five years of Alzheimer's decline. He built the family home in New Springfield in 1954, where he resided his entire life. Pete was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for Charles Shutrump Company until his retirement in 1980. Pete was a long time member of St. Paul's Church in New Middletown and was recently honored by the American Legion for 50 years of continuous membership. Pete deeply cared about his children and grandchilden and enjoyed bowling, fishing, bingo, and working on cars and all things mechanical. Peter leaves his children, Paul (Denise) Vitko of Minnesota, Karen (Paul) Arbogast of Columbiana, Andrew (Colleen) Vitko of Medina and David (Denise) Vitko of Columbiana; two brothers, Paul and Frank Vitko and eight grandchildren, Terra Arbogast, Lacy Vitko, Kelly Vitko, Rachel Vitko, Lauren Vitko, Josh Arbogast, Nick (Michelle) Vitko and David Vitko. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Peter Jr., who died at birth; brothers, Andrew, Steve and John; and one sister, Mary.
