Struthers – Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish/St. Nicholas Church both in Struthers for Michael Scavnicky, 91, who died Friday at Maplecrest Nursing Home. Michael was born September 25, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Veronica Wasko Scavnicky. He served in the Army during World War II and received the American Theater Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. He married Virginia Matricardi  on October 10, 1947. He worked and retired as a pipe fitter for Sharon Steel. He was a member of the Struthers VFW Post# 3538, Knights of Columbus #4224 and Christ Our Savior Parish/ St. Nicholas Church.  Michael was a hunter, fisherman, and a bowler.  He also was an avid golfer and worked as a starter at Millcreek Golf Course. Michael leaves his wife, Virginia, a son Gerald Scavnicky of Boardman, two daughters Diane (Gene) Marra of Salem and Michele (Steve) Richards of Poland, one sister Cecelia Scavnicky Nasetta of White Plains, NY, three grandchildren Derek Scavnicky of Tampa, FL, Gerald Scavnicky, Jr. of Struthers and Courtney Richards of Poland, two great grandchildren Michael and Brooke Scavnicky. Michael was preceded in death by his four brothers Joseph, Edward, John and Stephen, and four sisters Patricia Scavnicky Nassetta, Mary Scavnicky Rush, Margaret Scavnicky, and Agnes Scavnicky. The family wishes to thank Maplecrest Nursing Home and Hospice of the Valley for the compassionate care they extended to Michael.
