Poland – A Mass of Christian burial will be held St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, Tuesday, January 19, at 12:00 pm for Mathew DeLisio, who died peacefully Thursday at Shepherd of the Valley.
Mathew was born September 21, 1925, in Castlebattacio, Campobaso, Italy a son of Luigi and Graziella DeOtto DeLisio.
He came to Lowellville as a young man and then moved to Struthers and finally to Poland. He worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and was a driver for 7 UP and owned Matt's Barber Shop. He also owned the Dairy Isle in Struthers. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a Carpenters Mate 3rd class from November 19, 1943, until May 12, 1946.
He married Mary Niro on July 27, 1947.
Mathew was a previous member of Christ Our Savior Parish / St. Nicholas Church in Struthers and was involved in the Church's men's renewal and the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Castle B Club and the Struthers VFW #3538.
Mathew leaves his wife, Mary, one daughter Marlene (John) Centofanti of Boardman, four grandchildren Ralph (Tiffany) Nero, Michelle (Albert) Pacella, Nicole (Michael) Hackstedde, and Jennie Centofanti, and three great-grandchildren, Albert and Ava Pacella and Joe Hackstedde.
Mathew was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Grace Nero; two brothers Michael and Joseph DeLisio, and one sister Carmela DeOtto.
Friends may call at St. Charles Church in Boardman two hours prior to the mass on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:45 am. Arrangements are being handled by Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Shepherd of the Valley for all their love and kindness that they showed to my father.
