Columbiana – A prayer service will be held Monday, September 21, at 10:30 am at Clemente Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Christ Our Savior / St. Nicholas Church both in Struthers, for Mary Isabelle Walko, 98, formerly of Poland. Isabelle died on Wednesday, September 16, at The Inn at Old Saybrook in Columbiana.
Isabelle was born in Youngstown on March 20, 1928, a daughter of John P. and Helen G. Ferenchak Bobby. She attended St. Matthias Catholic School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She married Edward J. Walko on June 17, 1950. She was member of Christ Our Savior / St. Nicholas Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, Jednota Slovak Catholic Sokol, Knollwood Garden Club, Ladies Card Club, and several bowling leagues. Isabelle volunteered at Beeghly Oaks, Southside Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary daily.
Isabelle leaves her son Thomas Walko of McDonald, her daughters Judy (Jack) Worthington of Lake Wylie, SC, and Mary Ann (Ron) Trevis of Poland, Barbara (Mark) Presby of Poland, her brother James (Jackie) Bobby of Poland, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, Edward, who died November 19, 2014, three brothers William Bobby, Gerald Bobby, and John Bobby, Jr., and two sisters Geraldine Bobby and Jane Baran.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Isabelle’s names go to St. Vincent DePaul either at svdmahoning.org/donate or by mail at P.O. Box 224 in Youngstown, OH, 44501-0224 or to the Second Harvest Food Bank online at mahoningvalleysecondharvest.org.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and Monday, September 21, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Clemente Funeral Home at 700 Fifth Street in Struthers, OH, 44471.
