New Middletown - Mary Elizabeth Davis, 62, of New Middletown, celebrated Jesus's birthday with him in Heaven upon passing shortly after Midnight on Christmas Day. A beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, friend, and educator, she will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, generosity, humor, and gentle spirit.

After graduating from Spring Arbor College, "Aunt Mary" began her 30-plus year teaching career at Lighthouse Christian School in Columbiana, Ohio. Shortly thereafter she was hired by her alma mater, Springfield Local Schools, to teach third grade. She later transitioned to the intermediate school as an  English teacher and finished her career as a history teacher (as that was her favorite subject), and upon her retirement she continued her service to the children of the Springfield community by tutoring at the intermediate school.

Service was the continuous theme of Mary's life as she desired to live out her faith in Jesus Christ. She served in various roles at church, spent countless hours each week helping her friends and family, praying with and for them, and was always available to lend a listening ear to someone who needed to talk. The list of lives she touched through her service would fill an entire newspaper section on its own. Perhaps the greatest thing about her service is that she did it all with zero expectation of getting anything in return. Mary truly defined the word "selfless".

Mary is survived by her brother John (Diane) Davis, Sr. of New Middletown; sister Ruth (Bill) Riley of New Springfield; nephew John (Kalyn) Davis, Jr.; nieces Carrie (Michael) Palmer; Ashley Davis; Megan Riley; Ally Riley; and three great-nephews (Hampton, Beckett, and Benjamin) and one great-niece (Hannah) who were the greatest joys of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur H. and Patricia (King) Davis, of New Middletown.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 from  4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown, Ohio.

Services will be held on Saturday Dec. 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Springfield Church of God 3649 E. Garfield Road New Springfield, OH 44443, where friends may call one hour before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of Mary's friends who were just as close as family over the years.
