Services: Services will be on Saturday 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers and 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown.
Visitation: Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
Liberty Twp. - Joseph F. Mediate, 83, of Liberty Twp. passed away Tuesday morning at Hospice House in Poland. Joseph was born on May 2, 1926 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Rocco and Catherine Papalia Mediate. He lived in the area his whole life and graduated from Struthers High School in 1943. He then served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a tailgunner in the 92nd Bomb Group. Upon returning from the war he graduated with a Bacherlor Degree in Engineering from Youngstown College. He then worked as the Vice-president in Research and Developement at McDonald Steel as an engineer. He was also successful in obtaining two patents for McDonald Steel. Joe was one the the key groups that started McDonald Steel. and was instrumental in the success of the company. After his retirement he remained as a Commercial Technological Advisor and remained a dear friend and contributor to McDonald Steel until his passing. Joseph was a member of the VFW #3538 in Struthers and was also in the VFW's golf league and a member of the Saxon Club. Joseph married the former Dolores J. D'Altorio on September 6, 1952 and she passed away on March 22, 1987. He leaves his second wife the former Catherine A. Campana. Besides his wife Catherine, he leaves two daughters, Gina M. Bowman of Las Vegas, NV and Cathy A. (Randy) Meche of Baton Rouge, Louisana; one brother Anthony (Ike) (Norene) Mediate of The Villages, FL; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and three step grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and two sisters, Ann M. Coppola and Antoinette Mediate.
