A memorial service will be held Friday, January 13, at 4:30 pm at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for John R. Zifchak, Sr., 83, of Struthers who died peacefully Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley.

John was born June 30, 1933, in Campbell, a son of Joseph and Veronica Sopko Zifchak.  He served in the Army and worked at General Fireproofing, A&P Warehouse and Stambaugh's, prior to retiring.  John married the former Jean DeLong on October 15, 1955. He was a member of St. Nicholas / Christ Our Savior Church.  He loved fishing, playing sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

John leaves his wife, Jean, his daughter Diane (John) Barnhart of Boardman, six grandchildren Nicole Zifchak, Stephanie (Adam) Hanley, Jill Jordan, Katie Jordan, and Nicholas Jordan, two great grandchildren Jack and Amelia and a cherished family friend Donna Velichko.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his son John R. Zifchak, Jr. one granddaughter Jessica Zifchak, three brothers Joseph, Andrew and Martin, and three sisters Ann Tofil, Agnes Tatar, and Margaret Kuboff.

The family wished to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman for the care and compassion they showed to John.
