Boardman – John McKinnon, 89, of Boardman, died Friday evening at the Vista Center in Boardman
John was born June 5, 1927, in Pine Township, PA, a son of James MacGready and Mary Carmen Bumbago McKinnon.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was decorated. He worked in apartment maintenance and management at a complex in California.
He married Dorothy DeChane on August 29, 1981.
John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #213. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and played minor league pro hockey in his youth. He enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and was an avid golfer earning six hole in ones.
John leaves his wife, Dorothy, a daughter Cindy (Bob) Freeze, a sister Agnes Ritzert of Ellwood City,PA, five grandchildren Bill (Heather) Graffius, Gloria Short, Melissa (Jamie) Campbell, Chris (Tracy) Graffius, and Michele (John) Phillips, and eight great grandchildren, He was especially close to three of his great grandchildren Cameron, Braden and Brianna.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Scott McKinnon, a daughter Shirley Lee Graffius, two brothers James and William McKinnon, a sister Margaret Dick, a grandson Scott McKinnon and a great grandson Justin McKinnon.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital Boardman campus 4th floor for the care and compassion they extended to John and his family.
Friends may call at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers on Thursday, May 4, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM.
