NEW MIDDLETOWN- A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd. at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown, for John R. Comerford, 89, who passed away Thursday morning at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
John was born June 23, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of William and Catherine Reddington Comerford.
He lived in the area his whole life. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was on the U.S.S. Burke in the South Pacific and was present at Tokyo Bay, when Japan signed their surrender. He worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company, Briar Hill Works, as a crane man, from where he retired. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was a reader, Eucharistic minister and sang in the choir. He was also one of the founders of Pirohy Sales where he helped for 25 years. He loved ballroom dancing and enjoyed going to the beach with his family and enjoyed bird watching in his back yard.
John married Mary K. Boticke on September 25, 1948 and she passed January 31, 2003.
He leaves one son, Robert (Lenora Hall) Comerford of Boardman; two daughters, Donna J. Baird of New Middletown and Kathleen A. (Ernest Talerico) Ciavarella of Poland, OH; four grandchildren, Marcie Baird, Nathan Ciavarella,, Matthew Baird and David Ciavarella
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, Richard Comerford, who died at birth; two brother, William Comerford and young twin brother Robert Comerford; three sisters, Infant Catherine Comerford, Mary Berlon and Patricia Giblin.
The family would like a special thank you to Bob Mahaffey from the Veterans Administration for all of his help.
Friends may call at the church one and a half hours prior to the mass on Tuesday, from 9:30 – 11:00 A. M.
There will be a reception immediately following the mass in the church hall.
