Obituary

POLAND – Services will be on Tuesday July 7,2015 at 11: 00 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown for Jean E. Rice, 87, formerly of Springfield Township who passed away Saturday afternoon at Hampton Woods. Jean was born on April 24,1928 in Poland,OH a daughter of Harry A. and Elizabeth Myers Kariher. She lived in the area her whole life and retired as a cook for the Springfield Local Schools. She also owned as a hobby A Touch of Wild for 15 years which specialized in dried flowers. She was a member of the Old Springfield United Church of Christ in New Middletown. She was a former member of the Poland Presbyterian Church in choir as a soloist and a soloist in the All Faith Choir in New Middletown. A member of the New Middletown Hay-Seed 4H Advisor, the Springfield Township Historical Society. an original member of the Green Twig Garden Club and the Buckeye Coachman Camper Club. Also the Springfield Township Fire Dept Station #21 Ladies Auxiliary. Jean married Harold R. Rice on August 3, 1946 and he passed away on November 26,2008. She leaves two sons James W. (Winona) Rice of New Middletown,OH and John W. Rice of Petersburg,OH. One daughter Linda (Chester) Surgenavic of North Lima,OH.Also 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers William and Richard Kariher ans two sisters Mildred Mason and infant sister Dorothy Kariher. Friends may call today Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown and on Tuesday at the funeral home one hour before the service from 10-11 a.m. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hampton Woods for  the care that they gave and showed to Jean.
