Lowellville – Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers on Monday for James E. Cownden, 79, of Lowellville, who passed away Saturday evening, September 6, 2014, after a lengthy hospital stay.
James was born on August 6, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of James E. and Frances Gray Cownden. He was an Air Force Veteran and served in the Korean War. He lived in the area his whole life and worked in shipping and receiving at Fireline Inc. He was a member of the Ruritan Club in Gilford Lake and was an avid golfer and bowler.
James married the former Alice E. Hoffman in 1978.
Besides his wife of Lowellville, he leaves four sons, Jimmy Cownden of California, Justin Cownden of Cleveland, OH, John and Dave Genhart, both of Struthers; three daughters, Bettyann Oliva of California, Kim (Jeff) Redmond of North Carolina; Shannon (Tony) Genhart of Lowellville; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phillip Cownden.
Friends may call three hours before the service, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers on Monday.
