CANTON - Helen Irene Daliman Soldo passed away suddenly and peacefully on October 16, 2011, just three weeks short of turning 89. Helen was born November 6, 1922 in Burgettstown, Pa., to Slovak immigrants Paul and Anna Milcho Daliman. The family lived in several coal mining towns in Ohio before settling in Struthers. Helen graduated from Struthers High School in 1940 and worked at the Triangle Coat Factory in downtown Youngstown, where she perfected her renowned seamstress skills. After her sweetheart Rudolph (George) Soldo returned from World War II, they were married May 18, 1946, living in New Middletown before moving to Struthers in 1950. For their six children, they made a wonderful home filled with music, art, and laughter, a place where relatives and neighborhood friends were welcome. Helen was a member of St. Nicholas Church and all of her children graduated from St. Nicholas School. She was an expert homemaker and hostess, known for her cooking, baking, sewing, dried flower arrangements and pine cone wreaths. Her family and friends were grateful recipients of her beautiful painted ceramics, especially her Santa Claus figurines. Helen was also a member of the SNPJ (Slovenian National Benefit Society), she loved polka dancing. In 2005, Helen moved from Struthers to Canton to live next door to her caregivers, a son George and his wife Karen, who created a happy home for her for the past six years. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her son Ed (Sue) and grandson Cole in Cincinnati; son Jim (Vickie) and grandchildren Beth and Aaron in Clearwater, Florida; daughter Sylvia (David Danekas) in San Frncisco; son George (Karen) and grandchildren Amy (James) Huston in Canton and Michael (Rachel Davis) in Springfield; daughter Elaine (Jimmy Onstott) and granddaughter Halley Chambers in Portland, Oregon and daughter Mary (John Webster) of Struthers. She alo leaves her brother John (Helen) Daliman of Struthers, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and family friends. Helen was preceded in death by her infant brother Paul, her parents, her husband George, who passed away August 11, 1981. Helen has been waiting 30 years to have another polka dance with George, and now they're together again. We love and miss you, Mom - (Dobru noc, dobre spi.)
