Struthers-Helen Frances Calhoun Daliman went to heaven on January 14, 2013. She was born July 16, 1924 to Welly J. and Agnes McLean Calhoun in Mahoningtown, Pa., the only daughter among five children. The railroad family moved to various towns, ultimately settling in Struthers. She graduated from Struthers High School in 1943. Upon her mother's early demise, she dedicated her life to her family raising her four brothers. When that task was complete, she took a job as an operator at Ohio Bell Telephone, where she met many treasured lifelong friends. She married her World War II hero and sweetheart, John (Yank) Daliman on August 21, 1954. She continued her unbridled dedication to family, raising four children. She later went to work as a bookkeeper at Windsor House, and was very proud of her skills. Helen was an active member of St. Nicholas Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered for many organizations and causes, including BCC School, St. Elizabeth Hospital, St. Nicholas Parish Festival and Youngstown Society for the Blind. She was also a member of the Youngstown Cursillo movement, in which she served many capacities. Helen also had a prolific prayer list, chances are certain that you or someone you love has had prayers sent from her. Helen leaves four children, Atty. John P. (Jean) of Canfield. Daniel (Deborah) of Gilbert, Ariz., Thomas (Christine) of Campbell and Marianne (Jeffrey) Kieffer of Dublin. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda, Dr. Amy and Lauren Daliman, and Emily, John and Samuel Kieffer. She leaves two stepbrothers, Irvin (Dolores) Summers of Wampum, Pa., and David (Patricia) Summers of Bessemer, Pa. She also leaves cherished nieces and nephews, many of whom expressed, Aunt Helen was my favorite! She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, who died Dec. 3, 2012; brothers Joseph, Charles, James and Thomas Calhoun; step-brothers, Wilbur and Gerald Summers; step-sister, Winifred Brentin: and grandson, Justin Mistovich. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staffs at Omni Manor and Omni West Assisted Living Center, as well as Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care provided.
