STRUTHERS – Ernest Zavatsky, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Friday, November 28th, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Poland.
He was born March 5, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late George and Tekla Kovalcik Zavatsky. He served in the U.S. Army 47th Inf. Div Camp Rucker, Alabama.
Ernest was a graduate of Scienceville High School. He was employed at Aeroquip (Republic Hose) in Youngstown for over 40 years. He was an active member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown and was President of their Men's Association for several years. He enjoyed stamp collecting, he was best known for telling stories of all his life adventures and could always keep his audience captivated and there wasn't a crossword puzzle he couldn't tackle with ease. He was active in the Boy Scouts as a Troop Leader for many years, taking several of his scouts cross country to Alaska for a three week adventure.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sophia Ann Kaminska, whom he married on January 15, 1966; two daughters, Emilia Clune of Hermitage, PA and Sonya (Carl) Robinson of Conneaut Lake, PA; two granddaughters, Brittany and Sara Pretoka of Austintown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Anna Noteboom, Martha Hallas, Mary Grena, Rose Sevachko, Irene Macabobby and infant Eva Zavatsky; three brothers George, Joseph and Samuel Zavatsky; and son-in-law Patrick J. Clune.
Private Services were held Tuesday at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
