Obituary

Struthers – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish/St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, for Elizabeth Jane Nemeth DeGenova, 92, who was born on September 28, 1924 in Campbell, Ohio to John and Susan Szekey Nemeth. She finished her journey here on earth on Sunday, October 2, 2016. On April 28, 1945 she married Albert DeGenova who passed away on October 31, 1985. Betty enjoyed her family and her friends. She loved her church and attended daily mass for many years. Though she wasn't able to attend these past years, her daily devotion continued with the TV Masses from Boston, Washington DC and our local EWTN. She prayed her daily rosaries with Father Reed and Father Corda. She belonged to Struthers Senior Citizens, and was a former member of the St. Nicholas Seniors, Lowellville Seniors and Holy Family Seniors. She was a member of St. Nicholas Altar and Rosary and served as "The Bun Lady" at the St. Nicholas Holy Name Monthly Breakfast. While her children were young, she was a Cub Scout Den Leader, member of the Mom's and Dad's Club and the Struthers Band Boosters. She spent many years babysitting children, who all became a part of our family, Sherry, Shelly, Stevie, Jarod, Jason, Debbie, David, Tommy, Ronnie, Connie and Cathy. She marched on the Capitol in support of Solidarity for Republic Steel Workers, Retirees and their Spouses. She was a woman who believed nothing should ever go to waste. She recycled before it was the right thing to do. She gathered many things from others and always found someone who could make good use of them. She collected thousands of pop cans for her grandchildren to recycle and collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. At one drop off, she and her friends had their picture taken with a collection of 31 plastic gallons of pop tabs. She loved to cook and always had room for one more at her table. She loved her garden and sharing her tomatoes, but nothing brought her more pleasure than cutting her grass which she did until she was 89. She loved her tractor! She leaves her four children, James (Judy) DeGenova of Mercer, PA, Albert "Boogie" (Pam) DeGenova of Henderson, NV, John (Cecilia) DeGenova of Virginia Beach, VA and her daughter Laura (Jim) Kramer of Boardman. She was blessed with wonderful grandchildren, Sonja Johnson of Columbus, Gina (Mark) Vance of Hermitage, PA, Lana Dischert of Hermitage, PA, Christopher (Samantha) DeGenova of Lehigh Acres, FL, Nicholas (Jessica) DeGenova of Chesapeake, VA, Maria Eiland of Cincinnati, Jimmy Kramer of Boone, NC, Matthew Kramer (Ray Westhead) of Youngstown and Joseph DeGenova of Hermitage, PA. Her greatest blessing are her great grandchildren, Camden and Logan Johnson of Columbus, Jacob, Ella and Megan Vance of Hermitage, PA, Milenna, Sydnie, Nylah, Nolan and Cullen Dischert of Hermitage, PA, Dante, Cameron and Axel DeGenova of Lehigh Acres,  FL, Aubrey and Autumn DeGenova of Chesapeake, VA and Kynnedy Eiland of Cincinnati. Her sister Mary DeVico of Austintown, sister-in-laws Irene Nemeth of Youngstown and Yolanda Pollifrone of Fort Lauderdale, FL along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, her brothers John (Agnes Johnson) Nemeth and George Nemeth; her sisters, Irene (Frank) Pipoly, Margaret (John) Matzye, Dolores (Robert) Gambrel, brother-in-laws Armand DeGenova, Joseph (Phil) DeGenova, Elmer (Catherine) DeGenova, Alfonso DeVico; sister-in-laws, Laura DeGenova, Flora (Cheech) Marchionda, Minnie (John) Maravola; nephew Michael Maravola and her grandson Albert (Francis) Kramer, granddaughter Anna Cecilia DeGenova and great granddaughter Gracie Elizabeth Dischert. Our family would like to express our appreciation for the wonderful care and compassion our mother received in her final months at the Assumption Village in North Lima and to Hospice of the Valley. We were blessed to have had the wonderful parents we did. They were simple people who taught us to love both family and friends and to respect everyone we met. They lived their faith in everything that they did. They taught by their actions how to serve others as Christ served us. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you do a random act of kindness in their memory. Feed the hungry, cloth the naked, care for those in need or comfort those who are hurting. Our parents always supported St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Boys Town. Mom and Dad, thank you, we love you. Friends may call on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., one hour before the mass, at Christ Our Savior Parish/St. Nicholas Church.
