Obituary

Youngstown – Edward J. Champion, 99, died August 17, 2026 at Southern Care Hospice surrounded by his family.

Edward was born April 5, 1927, in Wickliffe, OH, a son of Joseph and Eloise Black Champion. He served in the Navy during World War II and Korea and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal. He married Patricia Croyle on May 17, 1945. Edward worked at U.S. Steel and then later in life worked in maintenance at Mill Creek Metro Parks until he retired. He enjoyed camping with family and exploring flea markets. He loved a good bargain. He was very handy and could build or fix anything and was always glad to lend a hand helping others .

Edward leaves his son Timothy (Missy) Champion of Youngstown, his brother Gary (Dorie) Campion of Greenville, PA, his sister Iris of Ft. Myers, FL, a daughter-in-law Sandra Champion of North Jackson, a son-in-law Bill Bevan of Ft. Myers, FL, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He loved his dogs Zack and Tabby; they were his everything.

Edward was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia who died May 10, 2005, three sons Edward, Randy and Douglas, two daughters Suzan Bevan and Cindy Swiger, son-in-law Wayne Swiger, his grandson Jason Swiger, two brothers Don and Joseph, and two sisters Laura and Geraldine.

Per Edward’s wishes there will be no services.
