Struthers – A funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 am at Clemente Funeral Home for David J. Spay, 70, of Struthers, who died at Hospice House on Wednesday.
David was born October 29, 1944, in Youngstown a son of Joseph and Catherine Tremko Spay.
He graduated from Struthers High School and attended Youngstown State University. He served two tours of duty as a Marine Sergeant in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also served on Embassy duty and was present for the transfer of the remains of President John F. Kennedy at the 8th & I Marine.
He married Karen Willings on July 21, 1986.
David was a life member of the VFW Post 3538 where he served as past commander and quarter master. He was also a life member of the Marine Corp League and Teamster #377. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, golfing and hunting.
David leaves his wife, Karen; three sons Donald (Joan) Stewart of Poland, Rich (Mariruth) Stewart of Struthers and David J. Spay II of Warren; one daughter Leona (Michael) Scavina of Poland; three brothers, Robert (JoAnn) Spay of Akron, Tom (Sue) Spay of Iowa and Joseph (Lola) Spay of Texas; eight grandchildren Megan Stewart, Makenzie Stewart, Morgan Stewart, Michael Scavina, Alaina Scavina, Alexis Spay, Allyson Spay and Noah Spay, and one great grandchild Ethan.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on Sunday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
