Services: Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the Highway Tabernacle Church in Austintown.
Visitation: Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers, and on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., one hour before the service,at Highway Tabernacle Church.
YOUNGSTOWN - Betty Carney D'Alesandro also know as (Guzzy), as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, passed away peacefully into eternal life to be with Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 29th. at her home. Mrs. D'Alesandro was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of Florence Grimm Carney and Michael G. Carney. She grew up in Campbell, Ohio where she formed many beautiful lifelong friendships. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in June 1948. She married the love of her life, John E. D'Alesandro, (Johnny Dell) on June 21, 1952. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together. She spent the most rewarding time in her life raising her twin boys, Johnny and Joey. Mrs. D'Alesandro was employed at the G.E. Lamp Works, Lustig's Shoe Store and the Lazy Boy Furniture Store. Mrs. D'Alesandro later volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home, Hospice of the Valley and the Highway Tabernacle Church where she was involved with the Sunshine visiting committee, Ladies Weekends, the Summer School Program and volunteered as a Altar server and a Greeter. She loved her church and all the beautiful friends that she made there through the Senior Luncheons and her Sunday School class which was taught by Gary Mayle. Mrs. D'Alesandro attended Wednesday Bible study Group under the direction of the Reverend Yola Ciccoli for over twenty-five years. She learned a great deal from the word of God, from all of her wonderful Pastors and Sunday school teachers and carried it with her all of her days. She enjoyed bowling on several local leagues and golfing at several local golf courses, she was an avid Mall Walker at the Southern Park Mall. She loved reading, she especially enjoyed spending time at the Barnes and Novle Book Store and with her gang on Saturday mornings at Panera's. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. D'Alesandro, her son, John R. D'Alesandro; five brothers, former Congressman Charles J. Carney, Patrick Carney, Robert Carney, Michael Carney and John B. Carney and four sisters, Mary Spiezio, Cassie DeSantis, Joann Carney and Brigetta Carney. She is survived by her son Joseph D'Alesandro, Granddaughter Taryn D'Alesandro and Great Granddaughter Gianna (GiGi) D'Alesandro all of Youngstown. The holidays were a very special time for them to gather at her home. She leaves two brothers, Edward R. (Katie) Carney of Girard, Gerard (Judy) Carney of Lowellville and a sister, Florence Carney of Youngstown, many nieces and nephews who loved her and will forever cherish the memories of her and all the joy she added to their lives. She leaves several lifelong friends, with whom she shared beautiful friendships. Among them being Irene Vince, Rosemarie Mangie, Anne Centofanti, Darlene Fox, Marie Carbon, Maryann Pillin, Bill and Joann Cook, Doris Lockshaw and Walt, Stella DeMain, all of Youngsotwn and Lillian Mastern of Texas. The family would like to give special Thanks for all the loving care she received from the Care Givers from Home Instead and from Hospice of the Valley. With special thanks to her nieces Linda Uhl, Lynn Bretz, Debi DiCioccio, Denise DeSantis and Kathy (Chickie) Hull.
