Poland – A prayer service will be held Wednesday, May 31, at 9:30 am at the Clemente Funeral Home and a mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am at Christ Our Savior/St. Nicholas Church both in Struthers for Lillian Cherry, 93, of Poland who passed away Wednesday surrounded by her family.
Lillian was born August 21, 1923, in Sabraton, West Virginia, a daughter of Frank and Martha Nagy Boback.
She came to this area in 1931 and married Martin Cherry on June 17, 1950.
She worked at G. M. McKelvey, Co., George Oles Market, Frank’s United Market, and Barley Meat Market in Youngstown. She was a member of St. Nicholas/ Christ Our Savior Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was an extraordinary Hungarian cook and stay- at-home mom who loved to sew. Above all, she was a proud and loving mom and grandmother.
Lillian leaves three daughters Marsha (John) Popovich of Boardman, Martha (Jason) Turk of Hobe Sound, FL, and Linda (Nikolaos) Ginnis of Poland; five grandchildren Alex (Amanda) Popovich of Stow, Jennifer Turk of St. Augustine, FL, and Nicole, Krista and Michael Ginnis of Poland, and two great grandchildren, Aidan and Ava Popovich.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who died October 18, 2006, her three brothers: Joseph, Frank and David Boback, three sisters Irene Budack, Caroline Kish, Ethel Faczan.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Lillian’s name be made to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley at 6505 Market Street Boardman, Ohio 44512.
